ATHLETES from the Malaysian Siamese community, who won medals in SEA Games 2017, were feted during the Public Sector Siamese Club’s gala dinner at a hotel in Alor Setar, Kedah.
Saritha Chamnong, 29, from Pengkalan Hulu, Perak, won a gold medal for archery (compound women’s event) while Jupha Somnet, 24, from Chuping, Perlis, won two silver medals in the 102km Road Race and Criterium 40km and a bronze medal in the Track Omnium events.
Other athletes from the community who made the country proud for their participation in sports events were Sucheera Tian, who represented Malaysia in volleyball tournaments in Thailand in 2016 and Singapore in 2017, and Chaiyaward Phetthani Am, a national tennis player.
Some 250 people attended the dinner.
Club president Niran Tan Kran said the event was to foster closer ties between the members and to honour the contributions of the members in various fields.
Club advisor Senator Aknan Ehtook said the club would conti-nue to highlight the achievements of civil servants to encourage the younger generation to work in public sectors.
Kedah Chinese, Indian and Siamese Community Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Dr Leong Yong Kong said the club is important as a bridge between the Siamese community and the state government.
